Chapter 8: Technology, the Use of Force and Weapons of Mass Destruction


The Soviet Union responds by sending still more weapons to Cuba, and forwardly positioning nuclear-armed submarines within striking distance of the United States. The arms race spirals out of control until both countries have their nuclear arsenals primed for utter destruction of the opponent. A single misstep will destroy human society as we know it. Any soldier in either army could make one wrong move and, in so doing, launch a global nuclear war. You have brought the world to the brink, and it seems only a matter of time before someone steps over the edge.
